Skywatchers caught an unusually clear glimpse of the features of the moon on Thursday night.
The moon's landscape was visible along with the nearby star cluster known as the "Seven Sisters".
Astronomy Ireland chose the evening for its annual moon watch and people braved the cold to witness the skies through large telescopes in five locations across Ireland.
Its chairman David Moore said it was "one of those things you have to see before you die".
"We could not have asked for a better night as we had perfectly clear skies", he added
"There were two large craters especially visible".
Even those without access to a telescope were able to enjoy the stunning star cluster visible by the naked eye.
